The Two-Year Journey

Travel with us to:

  • Alberta Provincial Gymfest, May 2-3, 2026 in Calgary, AB

  • Canadian Gymnaestrada June 30 - July 4, 2026 in Regina, SK

  • World Gymnaestrada July 10-17, 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal

  • And other performance opportunities!

World Gymnaestrada is an enormous international gymnastics festival that happens every four years. The next one is in Lisbon, Portugal from July 11-17, 2027 although Canadian delegates typically arrive 1-2 days earlier. There will be 18,000+ participants from over 60 countries! By numbers, World Gymnaestrada is bigger than the Olympics! The average participant age is 35, with people of all ages performing, from ages 2 to 93 years old. There are no judges - it's not a competition. It's a showcase of creative, entertaining gymnastics from all over the world.

World Gymnaestrada is so much more than just "a trip of a lifetime"! It's a two-year weekly journey! It's equally about new friendships, improved strength and fitness, new gymnastics skills, team bonding, travel memories, and confidence-building! It's weekends away together at Alberta Gymfest and Canadian Gymnaestrada, a whole week of adventuring in Portugal, team dinners, swimming pool acro fun, group tourism activities, and so much laughter! It's about belonging, representing Canada internationally, and working towards something bigger than yourself!

The CAPTivate Team

  • Routine theme: Canadian Summer

  • One of Canada's only ALL-ADULT teams

  • In-person and virtual weekly options

In the 2-year journey to World Gymnaestrada, we will be putting together a 15-minute-long group gymnastics routine, combining tumbling skills, acrobatic tricks, costumes, make-up, props, and dance choreography. Our theme for our routine will be "Canadian Summer", so expect fireworks, camping, hiking, beach fun, country music line-dancing, surfing, and all the other incredible summer activities that our country has to offer!

People have the option of joining the in-person team, with practices on Sundays 7:30-9:30pm in Calgary and Edmonton, or joining the online team with weekly homework assignments, video submissions due, and regular "office hours" for your questions. We will all be working together but separately on acrobatics and tumbling skills that will be incorporated into one fully integrated CAPTivate World Gymnaestrada routine. We recommend that online participants try to join with 1-2 other local people so that you can practice the acro homework together, but this is not required.

CAPTivate will be sending one of Canada's only all-adult teams to World Gymnaestrada. Participants must be 18 years old on or before July 10, 2027 in order to participate. That means no childish choreography, extensive use of shared drives with choreo videos and formation sheets, video meetings, and conditioning homework. More importantly, it also means no chaperones, no curfews, co-ed rooms (if requested), and a level of travel independence not found on other teams.

The Logistics

  • Sept 2025 - June 2026 + Sept 2026 - July 2027

  • Monthly payment plan

  • Fundraising & cost-conscious decisions

The World Gymnaestrada Team is a 2-year commitment, training 2 hours weekly from Sept 2025 to June 2026 + Canadian Gymnaestrada, followed by the summer off, followed by Sept 2026 until Worlds in July 2027. We will have 3 in-person mandatory workshops per year.

It is difficult to estimate the cost of this two-year journey when so many of the costs are controlled by other organizations (FIG, GymCan, GymSask, Alberta Gymnastics) and have not yet been announced. Our estimate at this time is $6,500+gst per person for in-person participants. This figure breaks down into 20 monthly payments of $325+gst, with payments finishing in April 2027. These payments cover :

  • two years of weekly gymnastics ($2500 value)

  • 6 in-person weekend workshops in Calgary/Edmonton

  • 5 days at Canadian Gymnaestrada, including dorm accommodations in Regina and 2/3 meals per day

  • 8-9 days at World Gymnaestrada, including hotel accommodations, 2/3 meals per day, public transport passes, ticket to the FIG gala, ticket to the PAGU national evening, and one other ticket to a national evening performance

  • Performance costumes + props

  • Team Canada tracksuit and backpack

  • Lots of CAPTivate team clothing

Notably, the figure above does not include flights to Portugal, transportation to Regina, or transportation to Calgary/Edmonton for the 3 in-person workshops each year. Also note that the payment total is not finalized for online team members yet.

Wherever possible, decisions will be made to minimize cost, such as workshop venues, clothing, hotel luxury levels, team dinner options, etc. Extensive fundraising will be done throughout the 2 years. In 2023, some of our participants fundraised over $1500 towards their trips. All fundraising goes towards the individual, not the team.

Discounts: CAPTivate is offering:

  • a 10% discount off a 2nd CAPTivate program for any Worlds team participant

  • a 10% discount on Worlds participant fees to any coaches that are actively coaching another CAPTivate program

  • a 10% seniors discount for adults over 60

  • a 5% family member discount for the second team member from one family unit (some discretion required).

The Worlds Team will have a 6-week Trial Period from Sept 14 - October 31, during which everyone can assess if this is a good fit. Part of being a good fit for the team means having a team-first mentality, having good attendance at practices, doing the homework assignments, and being a compassionate communicator. There is no minimum skill level required!
